STARS: 5 out of 5
WOODBURY MEADOWS CAMPGROUND, EAST CALAIS/WOODBURY/HARDWICK, VT: GPS 44.4324, -72.4657
There are many reasons that I give this campground 5 stars. Probably the first and foremost reason is that the owners Jon and Ann are amazing hosts. They accommodated us (and I've seen them go above and beyond for others, too) in ways I can't even begin to describe.
The location is fabulous. It is a half hour walk (3 minute drive) to a swimming hole that has clear water and only seems to be known by locals. It is near a bunch of cute Vermont towns. Montpelier, the state capitol, is only 20 mins away. Burlington, which is a nice college town filled with lots to do, good eats, and a vibrant community, is about 1.5 hours away. The New Hampshire border is about a 40 minute drive. The campground is located in what is known as the North East Kingdom, which is filled with hikes, snowmobiling and cross country trails, and amazing ponds, lakes and scenery.
The campground itself is a cozy 10 site or so campground. I believe there 3-4 "full hook up" sites, and a handful of dry camping sites of which only a couple are suitable for an RV. But each site has it's own specialness. One has a big deck. Another has a little station for cooking and storing firewood. They all have nice views.
It is very peaceful and has beautiful grounds; it even has a waterfall.
Cell in this part of VT is nearly nonexistent for just about any carrier. However, the campground does have wifi, and you can use "data calling" through their wifi and certainly have enough service to surf the web and check emails and texts.
We got no TV channels at all.
