About 3 hours from Big Arm State Park was a sweet Canadian town called Fernie, located it British Columbia. Our wedding anniversary is on September 5, so we decided to make a special long weekend and visit this town we had heard so much about.
The town itself was filled with great restaurants and cute shops. We had many great meals out while we were there.
We also spent a day exploring Crow's Nest Pass. This is a series of towns in a row that all have roots in coal mining. There were many tragedies in this area, all within a short span of time: the largest rock slide in Canadian history, a mine explosion, and other mining tragedies.
On another day, we went to Island Lake and Island Lake Lodge. We did a hike around the lake and then sat out on the patio of the lodge and had a yummy meal while admiring a spectacular view of the ice-capped mountains.
