DOME ROCK ROAD, BLM, QUARTZSITE, AZ: GPS 33.647373, -114.289406
There are many different BLM spots to camp at in Quartzsite. This is the only one I can review, since it is the only place we went and we were only there one night.
Unique to Quartzsite is a camp host. Most BLM land does not have a host to check you in. It's free, but you need a BLM pass from the host. I presume it's to make sure you don't set down roots and live there, but I'm not sure. At any rate, the camp host, an older gentleman, was extremely nice to us.
Being in such a large rig, we asked him where he recommended we go. He said "how about right over there," pointing at a spot very close to his rig. I said, well we don't want to crowd you... are there other easy spots? He said he didn't mind us being close to him, and that "we couldn't get much easier than that spot," which he was right about. So that's where we stayed for the night.
I think if we had intended to be there longer we would have opted for a different spot. But given our mindset that day and our short stay, it was perfect.
There was trash in many of the firepits and dog poop here and there. I'm not sure why people can't pick up after themselves? Please, if you boondock, DON'T LEAVE TRASH AND DOG POOP AROUND!
The parking (where we were) was extremely easy, and I suspect with all the spots to park, anyone at any time could find somewhere doable to camp. It's not a place that you need to scope out in advance, and there's enough other BLM land around, that if this spot is too crowded, there will be other places to go.
I only rated it 3 stars due to trash and lack of privacy, but it was extremely good for the needs we had. I'd still camp there again.
It was right near the freeway, but I heard no noise.
We had channels with our digital antenna.
We had decent cell service on both Verizon and ATT.
