OTTER CREEK BOONDOCKING, 150 HOWIE RD, BIG TIMBER, MT: GPS 45.8546943664551, -109.916023254395
This is free boondocking about 5 miles from the freeway (hwy 90) in Big Timber, MT. We weren't sure if we were going to spend one night or many nights as it was really just supposed to be a stopover between Kalispell, MT and Cody, WY.
There were only about 5 "spots" for RVs, although there is a big grassy field that I read people camp on during busy times. Someone who reviewed it said that vehicles aren't supposed to camp on the grass, but I didn't see any signs indicating that.
We picked a huge site (since we are pretty huge!) and stayed 2 nights during some rainy days. The spot is right on the Yellowstone River and we found it to be quite lovely.
The first night we were the only people there until very late, when one other RV rolled in and parked at the opposite end. The next day someone else came and parked way down there as well. So we felt like we had the whole place to ourselves.
The drive to get to the spot was easy, although you do have to go under a 14' bridge, which for us was a bit nerve wracking since we are 13'6" high! It was a paved road up until the turn-off which was gravel/dirt down to the sites.
There was a drop toilet for public use. It was old, but clean and well stocked with toilet paper!
Verizon and ATT were both good. We had no TV channels with our antenna.
