SOUTH FORK BOONDOCKING, NEAR SHENANDOAH NATIONAL PARK (NORTH ENTRANCE), VIRGINA: GPS 38.770537, -78.391351
We didn't stay here, but I scouted it so thought I'd include my opinion of it.
It is definitely beautiful, except for the trash that the locals leave behind (see photo of the firepit). There is ample room (width and length) to park a big rig on the side of the road (which is where everyone would park as you can't drive to the actual site), but the roads in are pretty narrow for the last 3 miles and I didn't want to run across another vehicle even when I was in my truck sans trailer.
There is a drop toilet, but it had rat or mouse feces all over the floor and was rather dirty, although there was toilet paper.
If we were in a smaller rig, we likely may have stayed here, despite the drawbacks. We opted for the more accessible Elizabeth Furnace Campground, also reviewed.
