HOGAN LUCE BLM BOONDOCKING, CODY, WY: GPS 44.787463, -109.257649
The photos I had seen of the spot online were VERY different than the way it is laid out now. It looks like they are currently in the process of revamping the campground. There were piles of gravel and big equipment parked there. The sites all had fresh gravel laid with picnic tables and nice firepits.
The downside is there's really only 1-3 spots where a big rig can fit. And there's a tree at the exit that would be an issue for a large and tall RV. So it's a better site for small-medium size RVs.
However, it is extremely beautiful! So if you can fit, it's worth going to.
The road to the campground is treacherous in the rain: very slick and the mud is so thick in places that our truck's underbelly was rubbing in the mud (we have a GMC 3500 Sierra with lots of clearance!). I don't think it would be too bad in dry seasons, but for the rainy season it is a no-go for us. Most of the road to the campground was good dirt road, but the sections that were bad were quite bad. The dirt road was about 5 miles long.
If you need to fill up with water in you can do so at the Cody RV dump at LT. Childers St in Cody, WY. You will need to bring small bills and quarters. You get 7-8 gallons per quarter.
Before going we spoke with the Ranger and assistant at the BLM office. Rick was super helpful, as was Nancy. (307) 578-5900
There was some ATT signal, but no Verizon.
