ELEPHANT BUTTE STATE PARK, LIONS BEACH CAMPGROUND, NM: GPS 33.1770° N, 107.2253° W
This campground was quite hard to know where to go and was laid out in a very unorganized fashion. The map online makes it look like Loop C is close to the water, when in reality it isn't. Loop A actually has better views because it is elevated.
The single bathroom for all three loops was located at one end (we were at the opposite end) and was quite a trek to get to. And, the bathroom was dirty feeling. There were showers, but again, they didn't feel particularly clean, and although the water temperature couldn't be controlled, it was warm enough. The last two days we were there the bathrooms were closed due to clogged toilets, I believe, so we had to drive to a drop toilet when we wanted to use one outside of our trailer.
The lake itself was a great spot to take Avery, but the bugs got annoying after awhile.
The sites are all back-ins that are perpendicular to the road, so a bit tricky.
If I came back, I'd stay in Loop A and probably closer to the end where the bathroom is.
One plus is the nice patio covering to provide shade and shelter. That did enable us to spend ample time outdoors. The bugs aren't bad at the campground itself, since it is set back considerably from the water.
