CHARLES WATERS CAMPGROUND, OUTSIDE OF MISSOULA, MONTANA: GPS 46.5753° N, 114.1408° W
This campground is almost as good as boondocking in terms of privacy. We were there on Memorial Day Weekend and the campground was full, but most of the spaces still felt very private, and it was really quiet, even with lots of kids and dogs. There was tons of green space between the campsites. Many of the sites had more than one picnic table. The fire pits were huge. The sites had level asphalt pads.
The drop toilets were clean and there were potable water spigots throughout the campground.
The fee was only $10/day, and in the off season I believe it is free.
There are many dog-friendly and horse-friendly trails, right off the campground. We did several hikes and they were all lovely and very do-able.
On the downside, there are lots of untrimmed trees which means moving your rig through the campground can be a bit challenging. But the upside is those trees make for the nice privacy.
The campground host was very nice without being nosey!
I took photos of a couple of the best spots. We were in #7 because it was the last available site. It was a large back in and quite nice. But there were several pull-throughs that were super nice. Two were #10 and #24.
